The learning environment of the Cedar Hills Kindergarten invites the children to participate in concrete experiences that help them learn concepts and develop academic skills while encouraging curiosity and exploration. Our program offers a balance of cognitive work and creative play.

The daily routine includes time for:
- Group activities – singing, discussion, planning, and reflection
- Individual and small group choices – creating , block building, woodworking, cooking, dramatic play, working with art media, experimenting, and project work
- Reading Workshop – independent reading, shared reading, modeled reading, and guided reading
- Developing the five foundational components of literacy – phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
- Writing Workshop – recording ideas on paper through drawing and writing – composing, conferring, and sharing
- Math Lab – exploration of mathematics, engaging in math skills including measuring, graphing, classifying, patterning, counting, comparing, recognizing, and writing numerals, and ordering
- Playing outdoors – swings, climbing structures, and grass lawn
- Handwriting instruction – Handwriting Without Tears, a multi-sensory handwriting curriculum
Our Kindergarten program provides ample time, space, supervision, and materials so that each child may enjoy success and develop cognitively, creatively, and emotionally.
The Kindergarten class also participates in a variety of field trips throughout the year.
